This Privacy Policy describes how Good Vibe Publishing (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Journai mobile application (“App”).
- Journal Entries — Text you write within the App is stored locally on your device only using an on-device SQLite database. We do not transmit or store your journal entries on our servers except as described in Section 2.
- Mood Data — Mood selections you make are stored locally on your device only.
- Usage Preferences — App settings such as notification preferences and theme choices are stored locally on your device using device storage.
- AI Feature Usage Counts — We track the number of AI Insights requests associated with your device or account in order to enforce free and subscriber plan limits (see Section 3). This count does not include the content of your journal entries.
If you purchase a subscription (see Section 3), we receive limited transaction information from Apple, such as transaction identifiers and subscription status, to determine your plan and unlock the corresponding features. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
2. AI Insights Feature
When you choose to use the ✨ AI Insights feature:
- The text of the specific journal entry you are viewing is transmitted to our secure server (hosted on Google Firebase Cloud Functions) solely to generate an AI-powered response.
- Our server processes your text using Anthropic’s Claude AI model to generate a personalised, compassionate insight.
- Your journal text is not stored, logged, or retained on our servers after the AI response is returned to your device.
- The AI-generated response is displayed to you in the App and is not stored on our servers.
- This feature is opt-in — your text is only transmitted when you explicitly tap the AI Insights button.
2.1 Third-Party AI Processing
By using the AI Insights feature, your journal text is processed by Anthropic, PBC. Anthropic processes this data in accordance with their own privacy policy and data usage policies. We encourage you to review:
3. Subscriptions and Purchases
Journai offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions that unlock additional features, including a higher daily limit of AI Insights requests.
- Payment processing — Subscriptions are purchased through the Apple App Store, and all payment is processed by Apple. We never receive or store your payment card details, billing address, or other payment credentials. Apple’s handling of your payment information is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Transaction data we receive — We receive limited transaction information from Apple (such as transaction identifiers, purchase receipts, and subscription status) solely to verify your subscription and unlock the corresponding features in the App.
- Usage limits — To enforce free and subscriber plan limits, we track the number of AI Insights requests associated with your device or account. This usage count does not contain the content of your journal entries.
- Managing your subscription — You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID account settings.
4. Notifications
If you grant permission, the App sends local push notifications (e.g. daily journaling reminders). These notifications are generated entirely on your device. No notification data is transmitted to our servers.
5. Data Storage and Security
- All journal entries, mood data, and preferences are stored locally on your device.
- We use Google Firebase Cloud Functions solely as a secure intermediary for the AI Insights feature and to verify subscription entitlements and enforce usage limits.
- We implement reasonable technical measures to protect data in transit (HTTPS/TLS).
6. Data Retention
- Local data — Retained on your device until you delete the App or manually delete entries within the App.
- AI Insights data — Your journal text is processed in real-time and not retained after the response is delivered.
- Subscription and usage data — Subscription status and AI request usage counts are retained only as long as necessary to provide the service, verify entitlements, and comply with legal or accounting obligations.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Delete your data — journal entries and preferences are stored locally and can be deleted by removing the App; to request deletion of subscription-related or usage data we hold, please contact us
- Opt out of the AI Insights feature by simply not using it
- Withdraw consent for notifications via your device settings
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) or California (CCPA), you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA respectively. Please contact us to exercise these rights.
9. Changes to This Policy
We will notify you of material changes to this Privacy Policy via an in-app notification on your first launch after the update. The updated policy will also be posted at our Privacy Policy URL with a new effective date.
